Ms. Reena Rai, Former Executive Director [Engg-Elect / Technical] Airports Authority of India, Government of India

Ms. Reena Rai is a distinguished electrical engineer with over 35 years of experience in airport planning, design, operations, and sustainability. A graduate of REC Rourkela, she began her career as a lecturer before joining the Airports Authority of India (AAI) in 1990. As the Head of Environment and Energy Management at AAI, she spearheaded initiatives for carbon neutrality, renewable energy integration, and sustainable airport infrastructure. She played a pivotal role in developing the Net Zero Emissions Roadmap for Indian airports and contributed to national and international aviation policies, including the National Green Aviation Policy.

Ms. Rai led key projects such as the conceptualization of “No Frills” airports under the Regional Connectivity Scheme, the Sustainable Green Airports Mission (SUGAM), and large-scale solar power installations at major airports. She has been a key representative in international aviation forums, including ICAO and ACI Asia-Pacific, and has extensive experience in procurement, fire safety, and energy efficiency. A certified instructor from IATA Montreal, she has also contributed to training and capacity-building programs. Ms. Rai’s visionary leadership continues to shape sustainable practices in the aviation sector.
